Lesson Plan Documentation

What is your objective? The last week in July, I will be teaching SGD camp at Oregon State University. The students will be there for three hours sessions every day for five days. I will teach grades 6-8 in the morning and 4-6 in the afternoon. In addition, I plan to teach SGD to my own students, hopefully in January. This school year, I will be teaching HS Algebra 1 to 7th and 8th graders and an 8th grade Math Intervention Class.

What standards will you meet as part of this lesson? ISTE, NGSS, Common Core, etc... Think Computer Science, Math, Literacy, etc I will be incorporating 8th and Algebra CCSS, Literacy CCSS and I hope to incorporate ISTE standards. My district does not use the ISTE standards, but am hoping to research them and tie my lesson to those standards too.

What game will you teach first? I will teach Frogger first.

What grade(s) will you teach? I will teach grades 4-8 at my camp in July and 7-8 during the school year.

How often do you meet with your class? How many total class periods? My OSU camp is for five days, three hour sessions for each group each day. During the school year, my class periods are 46 minutes each. I will see my Algebra 1 students every day and my Math Intervention students every other day.

How many students will you teach? I don't know how many at the OSU camp. I have a 2/3 teaching position at my school. Next year I will teach three sections of Algebra 1 with approximately 115 students total. I will also teach one section of Math Intervention with approximately 20 students total.

What will the layout of classes look like? For example, Class 1: I will introduce the program, teach class rules, etc. Class 2: Frogger Part I I plan to use the Sandbox (aka Bob) idea to introduce the program, teach class rules, etc.

What support materials will you need/use? (Consider curricula materials, technology resources, etc) None for my camp. I don't know yet for my classes during the school year. I want to see how my camp goes first.

How will you integrate it into your existing curriculum? For example, will it replace current lessons, will you swap an existing lesson for a SGD lesson? I will swap some of my other project-based learning activities that correlate to the same CCSS.

When do you plan to teach this unit for the first time? I will teach the OSU camp the last week in July and at my school sometime in January.
